INBO Diabetes Alerts

Description

INBO emergency caregiver SMS alerts for Type 1 diabetes management. INBO sends SMS to designated emergency caregivers about a patient who has authorized them — specifically, critical low-blood-glucose alerts that may require the caregiver's attention. Patients (or their parents) configure caregivers inside the INBO mobile app.

How opt-in works

SMS consent is given personally by the message recipient, on a web form they open themselves. INBO never sends any message to a number until that number's owner has personally consented. There is no SMS keyword to start messages, and the account holder never enters the caregiver's number — the flow is:

1. An INBO account holder adds a family caregiver as an emergency contact inside the INBO iOS app (Settings → INBO Agents → Emergency Contact → Manage Contacts) and taps Invite by text, entering only the caregiver's name.
2. The app generates a personal invitation link (https://inbo-app.com/sms-consent) and hands it to the account holder's own share sheet. The account holder sends that link to the caregiver themselves, through their own Messages, email, or any app they choose. INBO sends nothing at this step.
3. The caregiver opens the link and sees who invited them, what the alerts are for, the message frequency, that "Msg & data rates may apply," and the STOP/HELP instructions. To consent, the caregiver enters their own mobile number and checks the agreement box on the web form. Consent is given by the message recipient personally — the account holder cannot consent on their behalf and never sees or types the caregiver's number.
4. Only after that web consent may INBO ever text the caregiver, and only for critical low-glucose emergencies. Replying STOP at any time opts the caregiver out immediately; replying HELP returns help and support contact information.
5. Frequency is emergency-only: a typical caregiver receives 0 messages in a month, and 1–3 during an active month.
6. Consent is not a condition of any purchase, and mobile numbers and opt-in status are never shared with third parties.

Caregivers are enrolled only by personally consenting on the web form above. SMS alerts are never enrolled via an SMS keyword, and INBO never sends a first, unsolicited message to obtain consent. See the INBO Privacy Policy for data handling details.

Message frequency

Emergency-only. Most caregivers receive 0 messages per month; typical active months may include 1–3 alerts. Confirmation, acknowledgment, and help replies in the opt-in flow are not counted as alerts.

Message and data rates

Standard message and data rates may apply per the recipient's mobile carrier plan.

Sample messages

The messages this program sends. INBO texts a caregiver only after that caregiver has personally consented on the web form at inbo-app.com/sms-consent — there is no welcome or confirmation SMS, because consent is captured on the web, not over text. {Patient name} is the name the patient configured in the INBO app; blood-glucose values vary.

Sample emergency alert (the only message type INBO sends)

{Patient name}'s blood glucose was 52 at 2:14 AM — a critical low. Please contact them now. If they do not respond, follow their emergency plan. Automated INBO alert; readings may be delayed or incorrect.
